Be silent a few minutes a day is beneficial to health.
Already fell silent today? No one is talking about the act of not talking, and yes, the inner silence, one that is able to rest the mind, improve concentration, bringing welfare and organize thoughts.

"This exercise also puts people in contact with positive changes and renewing, open spaces for new creative processes and slows down the body, which happens to work better," says the therapist and physical therapist Andrea Bomfim Perdigao, São Paulo, author of «About Silence '.
According to the neurosurgeon Koshiro Nishikuni, the Santa Cruz Hospital, São Paulo, and a member of the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery (SBN), the beneficial effects of silence can be demonstrated by an MRI.

"We note that while the person is silent, concentrated on breathing and thinking of nothing, there is an increase of the cerebral cortex, which improves mainly the functions of the hippocampus, which is directly involved with learning, memory and emotion. On the other hand, there is a decrease of neurons in the region of the amygdala, which is associated with anxiety and stress, "says the doctor.Last but not least, the silence is also a way of showing respect and interest from the viewpoint of others.
"We learn to listen to us and hear each other, and choose the right time to speak and what to speak, avoiding waste of words and valuing gestures like a smile, a touch or look deeper 'Full psychologist and psychoanalyst of Blenda Oliveira, São Paulo, member of the Brazilian Psychoanalytic Society of São Paulo (SBPSP).

Being a calm and with few noises help in time to find silence, but, according to experts, it does not mean that those who live in urban centers will not achieve inner stillness."Anyone can get out there and experience all these benefits that feels the need to be silent," says psychologist Blenda de Oliveira.

For those who are not used to be quiet, the therapist suggests Andrea Perdigao train daily, for ten minutes.

"In the beginning, a whirlwind of thoughts will go through your head, but as soon as they are soothing, will experience the serenity. It is also common to relate the absence of sound to loneliness and sad moments, but if you can overcome this step without turning on the television or radio, will realize how rewarding is inserting silent periods in routine, "says the expert.
